Accessories Make The Home Giveaway

A lot of people spend a lot of time trying to make their homes look like others. They take time building Pinterest Boards, Scrapbooking Home Decor ideas, or collecting pictures from magazines so they can duplicate a look. Although I’m all about finding your inspiration from all over, I’m under the opinion that you should make your home yours. So the following are a few tips you can do to help make your place unique, and all you!

Bellini Red Pillow

Don’t be shy — You can make a huge statement with the right hue! You don’t have to go all out and paint your walls a neon green, you can add splashes of color just by bringing in the right accessory! Bring in a splash with an accent pillow, lamp, or large coffee table book!

Quick Tip: All the pictures in this post are shopable! Take some time to find a piece that will make your room say “welcome”.

Paint Coast Canvas You don’t have to be wealthy to enjoy a little photography or post modern appropriation. You can find tons of art in your every day life to make it your own. You can add a little spark of inspiration from a painting, sculpture, personal photography, and other types of  visual media. The key to this piece of art you are going to display is make it represent you, your interests, or your life. When people see art in your home they will associate the piece with you and what your personal aspirations or interests are. Choose wisely my friends!

Integrate your hobbies and recreation into your decor! Do you like long walks on the beach, hiking your local Everest, or collecting things? Show it off! It doesn’t mean you have to literally build a shadowbox and show off your passion, but you can find items that will show off your love for “your thing”. Just keep one very important rule in mind, less is more! Keep it clean and classy, otherwise it just comes off cluttered and busy!

Your Memories!
Paris Framed Wall ArtDisplay items that remind you of the places you have been and the memories you have made with your friends and/or family! Did you travel to Europe, a seaside vista, or a vineyard? You can find a way to keep those memories alive by adding a piece of that visit in your home. You don’t want to go overboard and make a “Paris” room, because lets face it, it just becomes overkill. Add your memories but adding a simple collage of items under the glass of your coffee table, a picture displaying that “special moment” in the room, or an accent pillow with a unique picture or pattern that represent the trip you took!

Your History!
Simplicity Curio
Display meaningful heirlooms in your bookcases or on tabletops! You can always add in a few important pictures to tell a story about the items you have selected to display. Books and unique objects are always great items to display. Keep in mind you want to have a theme to a display and not fill it with random accessories just to fill it up. Easy themes are Family, Travel, Passions, Hobbies, Collections, or Discovery.

  1. As I clean out my grandmother’s house and put everything in storage, I’m tempted to clean out my house to and make way for updated and fresh accessories. I’ve never heard of this store/website, Mark, so thanks for introducing me to it.
